Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive: Nov. 11 - 20
Provide canned and boxed foods for a Thanksgiving dinner to families in need, as identified by Family Court of Philadelphia. Young adults, working with their probation officers, will distribute the food to Philadelphia families in crisis.
- Canned sweet potatoes, applesauce and/or cranberry sauce
- Canned peaches, pears, and/or mixed fruit cocktail
- Canned vegetables: corn, green beans, peas, mixed veggies
- Peanut butter, jams (plastic jars only!)
- Canned meats, such as tuna or salmon
- Boxes of breakfast cereals, crackers, pudding mixes
Place donations in designated boxes inside the back entrance and in upper school grade dean sign-in rooms. Cans or dried food in boxes only, please -- no glass containers.
Coat Collection for the Nationalities Service Center*: December 3-15
Please donate clean and ready-to-wear coats and jackets. Look for specially-marked collection boxes. Gently used apparel only– no tears, missing buttons, or malfunctioning zippers. Note: The greatest need is for adult (small and medium sizes), and teen-sized clothing.
* The Nationalities Service Center helps immigrants and refugees by protecting their legal rights; strengthening families and promoting self-sufficiency; eliminating barriers caused by language and cultural differences; and promoting public awareness of the benefits of diversity in American society.
Mitten Tree in Dining Hall: December 1 – 19
Hang new mittens, gloves, hats, caps, and scarves for infants and toddlers on the lighted “mitten tree” in the Dining Hall. The items will be distributed to young mothers through Maternity Care Coalition*.
*Since 1980, Maternity Care Coalition has been bringing together people who care about the health and well-being of pregnant women, infants and young children, and high-risk families.
Holiday Gift Drive Covenant House residents: Nov. 17 – Dec. 17
Lower School students arel collecting toiletries and personal effects for the residents at Covenant House*. Collection boxes will be located throughout lower school.
* Covenant House Pennsylvania serves homeless, runaway and at-risk youth, providing a continuum of services for youth in need.
