In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., the Friends Select School Parent Association hosted a day of service Monday, January 17th , from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Living Word Church on 17th street next door to the 1700 building.
The congregation at the Living Word Church holds a weekly Saturday ministry of food and fellowship, where they serve about 75 members of the Center City community every week. They serve a hot meal and have toiletries available as well as socks, underwear, and winter hats. The Church has been a wonderful neighbor to Friends Select. They allowed us to use their facilities for Meeting for Worship while the meetinghouse was under renovation. Our goal was to make at least 200 packages of toiletries and other items for this ministry and 100 for Covenant House, a center for homeless youth in Germantown. We surpassed this goal and hope to continue our partnership with these institutions.
Thank you to the many families and businesses that donated toiletries and the over 100 volunteers who participated on MLK day.
