Support FSS> Annual Fund>

Tuition only covers 80% of the costs of a Friends Select education.   The Annual Fund supports the school’s yearly operating budget by bridging the gap between the entire cost of educating each student and tuition.  It supports a variety of programs at Friends Select including faculty compensation, scholarship and financial aid as well as special programs such as math day, all-school theater productions and class trips.  The Annual Fund runs from July 1st to June 30th every year.

Donors may dedicate their Annual Fund gift to one or more of the following:
  - Faculty Compensation and Professional Development
  - Financial Aid and Scholarship
  - City Focused Curriculum
  - Technology
  - Visual and Performing Arts Programs
  - Quaker Programs
  - Athletic Programs

Many donors work for companies or corporations that will match employees' philanthropic contributions. Matching gifts are combined with the respective donor's contribution which often has the effect of qualifying or raising the donor's leadership level.

Each year, nearly 1,000 donors choose to support Friends Select School by making a gift to the Annual Fund.  The leadership giving categories listed below acknowledge those donors who have demonstrated the capacity and inclination to make substantial gifts in support of this critical fund.  Although broad participation is an essential goal, these leaders, representing a small portion of our donor pool, are responsible for more than half of the Annual Giving funds raised by the School each year.  These generous friends of Friends Select School are distinguished as leaders in the appropriate categories and are recognized as such in the school’s Annual Report of Gifts which is published each fall.

At the Benefactors Reception earlier this week, "Ocean Doctor" Dr. David Guggenheim spoke about his life's work to explore, research and conserve our oceans. Guggenheim spent the following day at Friends Select visiting classrooms and interacting with students in lower, middle and upper school. Guggenheim is a marine scientist, conservation policy specialist, submarine pilot and ocean explorer. His visit was part of Guggenheim's 50 Years-50 States-50 Speeches Expedition, a project designed to bring speeches and multimedia education programs about the oceans to one school in each of the 50 states.

Also this week, Guggenheim spent the morning with Marty Moss-Coane of WHYY-FM's Radio Times. Click here to hear their conversation.
