Upper School

9th through 12th grade

Friends Select offers an exemplary college preparation program. Students continue to master core academic content in English, history, mathematics, science and foreign languages. Courses require ever-increasing levels of independence, critical thinking and leadership each year. Students are taught to excel as researchers, writers and public speakers.

The city of Philadelphia is a rich resource that complements the challenging curriculum. The city provides Friends Select with the ability to expose learners to a wide range of disciplines and intellectual pursuits. Upper schoolers are encouraged to explore personal interests and talents that go beyond the core curriculum. Friends Select students thrive in public service, athletics and the arts. Ninth and tenth graders perform community service projects in a variety of contexts. The Junior Internship (optional) and the Senior Internship/Independent Project match students with related resources, both on and off campus.

All these factors combine to make the Friends Select upper school program comprehensive, interdisciplinary, scholarly and interactive, and help to foster in its graduates a lifelong love of learning.
