This two week intensive course introduces students to the fundamentals of woodworking with an emphasis on hand tools, formal design processes, and safe shop practices. Students will be individually guided through introductory joinery and woodworking projects in which they will learn how to effectively use a wide variety of hand tools, as well as how to interpret and develop a design idea to carry it to completion. This pragmatic hands-on approach will encourage students to look critically at the woodworking challenges in front of them, and help hone the mental and physical skills necessary to devise elegant solutions.
