The Friends Select Wellness Program is a year-long campaign to engage the school’s community and the general public about mental health and other wellness issues. Spearheaded by Dr. Molly Patterson, the middle and upper school learning specialist, and Dr. Natan Gottesman, the school’s psychologist, this exciting program is now in its third year. The program provides information, strategies, and support, and makes resources available for students, faculty, and families in the Friends Select community and beyond. Through speakers, events, and activities, the program increases awareness of circumstances that can impact a student’s learning and well-being, including mental health, learning styles, peer relationships, and Internet and social media use, to name a few.
In the 2017-18 school year year, the Wellness Program brought Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg to speak to the public and meet with FSS parents about his book, Raising Kids to Thrive: Balancing Love with Expectations and Protection with Trust. This year the program continues to expand, with a series of events intended to increase conversation about the connections between stress, overall mental health and well-being, and academic engagement.
