Parent involvement is a key way independent schools build community. We encourage every parent to volunteer in some capacity during the school year. Please look over the programs outlined below and fill out the Volunteer E-form.

Class Representative—As a Class Rep you will work closely with the PA Board & committees, the teacher and the parents of the class. A key part of this job is to communicate information between the school, teacher, and the parent association to the parents in the classroom. You will also take the lead in organizing class/grade activities and social events with other grade reps. In middle & upper school reps are broken down per grade. These responsibilities may be shared between two people. Please note, there will be a class representative meeting at the beginning of the school year to help everyone get started. Parent Admission Ambassador Program—Assist at an admission open house and other related events by welcoming visitors, working with the registration table, giving or assisting an admission tour (we will train you!), speaking with prospective families about FSS, assisting the lower director at Saturday morning play days, and contacting a new family during the summer months and through the first weeks of school. Multicultural Friends and Families (MCFF) Committee—This group supports and celebrates diversity at Friends Select School. They host meetings and social activities throughout the year. Join this group.
Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, & Transgender (LGBT) Committee—This group supports the LGBT families and friends throughout the Friends Select community. They host meetings and social activities throughout the year.Join this group.
Auction—This is the largest school social event of the year. It is an annual Parent Association fundraiser supporting the Friends Select Fund. The auction features an online, silent, and live auction. We need your help with soliciting donors for auction items, décor/set-up/clean-up, data entry and promotion. Class Dinners—We encourage families to host potluck dinners for each grade/class in the fall. Hosts open their homes and coordinate with the class rep & volunteers to arrange the event. If you are interested in assisting with a class dinner, your name will be forwarded to your classroom rep in the fall. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know that you are interested.
Assist Grade/Classroom Participant—Help with classroom projects, share your professional knowledge/expertise or your hobby with students. The need is year-round; the responsibility can be for a limited time. Touch base with your teacher to coordinate.
Community Service—Help coordinate, promote, connect, and/or lead community service initiatives. Talk to Jim Miller, the school's community service chair: email@example.com.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Breakfast—Help plan the annual “thank you” breakfast. We need your help with set-up, décor and during the event. Cooking not required. To express your interest email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Book Fair—The annual book fair takes place for six days in the beginning of December and runs from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. each day. During the fair we depend on parent volunteers to oversee sales and help students select their books. Please sign up for shifts when you see it advertised in school communications or express your availability by email@example.com.
Friends Select Fund Volunteer—Work with the development office on school fundraising throughout the year. Activities may include phonathons, personal follow-up or other duties. Contact Rebecca Rankin to offer your support: firstname.lastname@example.org
Host a Student Intern—Host a 12th grade student intern at your place of work for up to three weeks (May). Contact Suzanne Morrison email@example.com and we will extend your offer to a current senior.
Board Involvement—If you serve on a board, are involved with or volunteer with an organization, please share with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
International Student Host—Host a French, Spanish or Italian student in your home for a stay of up to three weeks, email Anita Bailey in the Admissions office: email@example.com.
Library Help—Provide assistance in the school library. Contact our lower school librarian, Paula Cairo: firstname.lastname@example.org.
General PA Volunteer—Pitch in when extra help is needed. Email email@example.com with your availability.
