Lydia Shaw '18 earned a national American Voices Award and Gold Key regional award for excellence in short fiction from Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for her short story, Tracks. She was honored on Sept. 15 at the Department of Education in Washington D.C., at the release of The Best Teen Writing of 2017, in which Tracks is published.
The ceremony included a ribbon cutting ceremony for Art.Write.Now, a yearlong exhibit featuring the work of National Scholastic Award Winners in the fields of art and writing.
In 2017, Scholastic received more than 330,000 submissions in art and writing nationally, approximately 1,500 from the Philadelphia region. Of those 1,500 submissions, five works were nominated for the American Voices Award, and of those five, Lydia's story won.
