Local Experts Give Input on New FSS Theater

On Friday, March 3, the theater project architect, Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, and project manager, Wolfe Scott Associates, met with members of the Friends Select community and local theater design experts for feedback and input on the upcoming theater renovation.

The group first heard from Sam Olshin '78, principal of Atkin Olshin Schade Architects, about the scope of the project. Then he opened it up for feedback and a discussion on choosing the best and most practical improvements for the theater. There was extensive conversation on durable theater equipment and where this should be located. This conversation was led by Glenn Perlman, Technical Director, Arden Theatre Company, and Georgia Schlessman, 1812 Productions, who have experience overseeing projects similar in scope recently completed at the Arden Theater. Another topic of discussion was on modernizing the theater to meet current ADA code and what this will look like. The meeting then moved to the theater where folks saw first hand the space and went over specific plans laid out for the project.

Next steps are to produce an updated budget target, develop the final scope of work, and begin the bid phase. By mid-April, the goal is to have all design decisions complete and confirmed. Stay tuned for more updates on the theater project.
