2017 Fall Sports Recap

Varsity Girls Tennis
The varsity girls tennis team started the season with back to back wins! They were also able to finish the season on a high note with a win over Phil-Mont. With every player on the varsity team graduating, it was a nice finish to the seniors’ careers. Their 5-1 non-league record is another sign of this team’s excellence on the court.

FSL Girls Tennis All-League (1st team): Tong Hu (12) 

JV Girls Tennis
The program continues to grow, as we were excited to have two upper school teams this year.
The JV tennis team dominated this fall when they played with their regular lineup. The top three singles players went undefeated all season and are looking forward to a leadership role on the varsity team next year.

Varsity Girls Soccer
The girls soccer program continues to grow and move in the right direction. With the largest team in recent years, the competition level rose dramatically. The varsity girls started the season 3-0 and outscored their opponents 21-4! Their 6-1 non-league record was impressive and helped them earn the #4 seed in the PIAA District one playoffs! The excitement around this program is amazing and the hard work from the players is great to witness.

Varsity Boys Soccer
The varsity boys soccer team was filled with seniors, and they played for each other throughout the season. The team won their first three non-league matches with a total score of 17-2! This group celebrated their first win over Abington Friends in many years, with a score of 2-1 in the middle of their season. Their 4-1 non-league record included a thrilling victory in overtime on senior day.

Varsity XC
The cross country team earned wins over Abington Friends and Chester Charter this year. They grew as a team and learned to push each other in positive ways to earn faster times. The season culminated with a trip to Lehigh University to run in Districts! This is the first Friends Select cross country team to run in Districts. With the incredible success of the undefeated MS team, big things are expected in the future.

Varsity Field Hockey
With the addition of five experienced freshman, the varsity field hockey team dominated their non-league play and held strong against some talented competition within the league. Every player was dedicated and willing to do whatever it took to help this team grow. Some highlights of the season included a night game under the lights on Bryn Athyn’s turf, a long awaited return to the district playoffs, and a 3-2 thrilling victory over George School in the Quaker Cup Championship. Not only was the team successful this season, but they raised the expectations for the seasons ahead.
