2018 Fall Sports Recap

Varsity Girls Tennis

The varsity girls tennis team was competitive against a very talented schedule this season. They recorded four team wins and were close in another six matches, losing by a score of only 2-3 each time. For the first time ever, FSS had two players named to the Friends Schools League (FSL) all-league team for tennis! It was a well-earned recognition, as Madeline Squires was 11-2 this season and Amelia Squires finished an impressive 10-3 as the #1 singles player for FSS.

Varsity Girls Soccer

Jumping out to a 4-2 record before league play, the varsity girls soccer team outscored their opponents 34-17. The consistent veterans who helped the team reach the district playoffs last season were joined by a few young offensive talents who gave the team an extra boost. Playing in a league as competitive as the FSL gives the Falcons an opportunity to learn and grow year after year, getting stronger each season. The varsity girls will look to continue their program’s success with more hard work and dedication next fall.

The varsity boys soccer team has a bright future. They are young and determined to make an impression on the FSL for the next few seasons. This year the team included ten 9th graders and an 8th grader, all of whom started in multiple games. The chemistry between these rising stars is outstanding. The varsity boys played in some tight matches this season and in the end it gave them more motivation and desire to excel next fall.

Varsity XC

The cross country team ran bold races this fall, finishing with 100% lifetime P.R.s during FSL Champs at Westtown. Many races this season were in the rain and mud, but the Falcons showed their mental toughness throughout the year. They battled through injuries and weather, and always stayed together as a team. During the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) state championship race at Belmont Plateau, the Falcons ran with full varsity and JV teams. Many runners set new P.R.s this season and a few broke the 20-minute mark. As the participation numbers continue to grow throughout the XC program—with over 50 runners on MS, JV, and varsity—the competition will continue to rise.

Our team started strong by winning their first three games by a combined 12-3 score. They finished even stronger by winning their last six games, and eight of their last nine games of the season. That hot streak included the Quaker Cup tournament. By beating Germantown Friends School (GFS) 8-1 and then Westtown 4-0, the Falcons secured their second consecutive Quaker Cup championship.
