Friends Select School Awarded a $1.7 Million Multi-Year Grant to Expand Educational Access
Friends Select School was recently named the recipient of a $1.7 million multi-year grant from The Children’s Education Initiative (TCEI), a San Diego-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of education for socioeconomically disadvantaged children. This grant will significantly increase access for students who are historically underrepresented at independent schools to attend Friends Select.
As part of this new partnership with TCEI, this grant will fund the full tuition and associated costs—including extracurriculars, athletics, and childcare for school-related events—for two new Friends Select students entering kindergarten each year, continuing all the way through 8th grade, signifying a major financial investment in Friends Select’s future. Friends Select will then cover the full tuition and associated costs for participating students in 9th through 12th grade, strengthening the school’s commitment to educational equity and innovation to prepare students for the whole of life. This comprehensive support ensures that participating students and their families can engage fully in the academic and community life of Friends Select without financial barriers.
This new partnership is a powerful affirmation of Friends Select’s mission and Quaker values, and aligns with its Advance Friends Select strategic plan. This generous grant from TCEI enables Friends Select to deepen its impact and broaden its reach, ensuring that more students from across the Philadelphia region have access to the transformative education that the school offers. By removing financial obstacles and providing holistic support, Friends Select and TCEI are opening doors to challenging academics, vibrant extracurriculars, and a nurturing community that fosters personal growth and leadership. The initiative is designed to empower students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds to thrive and succeed, not only at Friends Select, but in higher education and beyond.
